Graduate Programs

The Department of English houses four graduate programs, with opportunities for various minors and areas of emphasis.

MA in Literature

We provide students with the ability to produce effective professional-level academic writing as well as independent and original research. Students will also develop a graduate-level ability to use current critical and theoretical approaches to literary study.

MFA in Creative Writing

The MFA offers talented writers the opportunity to develop skills as fiction writers or poets in an academic setting. Our program requires three years to complete, during which time students produce a book-length manuscript of creative work.

MA in Technical Communication

Founded in 1999, the Texas State MATC Program prepares students to write and communicate in the rapidly changing arena of science and technology. The program produces students ready to pursue doctoral studies or professional work in technical communication.

MA in Rhetoric & Composition

As a Master of Arts (MA) student in Texas State University’s Rhetoric and Composition program, you will join a vibrant, supportive, and diverse community of faculty and students dedicated to the study of writing and teaching.
